NSFAS TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) Colleges are South African colleges that provide vocational and skills-based education and are funded by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS). NSFAS Application Opening Date 2026

  • The application portal of NSFAS opens on May 5 for Trimester 2 applications and closes on May 22.
  • Semester 2 application portal opens on July 17 and closes on July 31.
  • Nsfas applications for Trimester 3 applications begin on September 4 and close on September 20.

Requirement For Applying For NSFAS TVET Colleges

There are various requirements involved in applying for NSFAS (National Student Financial Aid Scheme) aid at TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) colleges. The requirements are listed below:

Students with disabilities must provide:

  • A completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form

Students recognized as vulnerable children must provide:

An applicant who is recognised as a vulnerable child by the Department of Social Development must provide and Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker

Other legal papers that may be required, if applicable:

  • Retrenchment letter
  • Death certificate/s
  • Divorce Decree
  • Proof of legal guardianship
  • Marriage certificate
  • other documents may be required for appeal purposes,….eg retrenchment letter.

You are eligible for an NSFAS bursary if you are a South African citizen who plans to study in 2026 or you are already studying at a public university or TVET college and you meet the following requirements:

  • South African citizens or permanent residents
  • SASSA grant recipients
  • Applicants whose combined gross household income is not more than R350 000 per year
  • 
Persons with disabilities whose combined gross household income is not more than R600 000 per year.
