NSFAS is a government entity operating under the Department of Higher Education and Training established according to the NSFAS Act (Act 56 of 1999) to provide financial support to disadvantaged students who wish to further their studies at public universities or TVET colleges.

All qualified South African citizen who are willing to further their academic in any of the government Tvet Colleges for the academic year 2026-2027 can now apply for the Nsfas funds through their official website. The online application window for NSFAS applicants for the 2026-2027 academic year will begin on the 20th of September and will be closing on the 15th of December.

NSFAS For TVET College 2026-2027 Eligibility Requirement

You qualify for an NSFAS bursary if you are a South African citizen who plans to study in 2026 or you are already studying at a public university or TVET college and you meet the following requirements:

  • All South African citizens
  • All SASSA grant recipients qualify for funding
  • Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum
  • A person with disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600 000 per annum
  • Students who started studying before 2018 and whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.

What Does NSFAS Bursary Cover For Tvet Colege Students In 2026-2027

The Nsfas funds indicated for accommodation, living allowance, transport, and learning materials need to be aligned with the approved latest DHET guidelines. Below is given what the Nsfas covers for Tvet College students and how much they receive for them:

  • Accommodation in an urban area is R24,000 per annum
  • Accommodation in a peri-urban area is R18,900 per annum
  • Accommodation in a rural area is R15,750 per annum
  • Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350 per annum
  • Transport R7000 per annum
  • Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum

Requirement For Applying For NSFAS TVET Colleges 2026-2027

To apply for NSFAS applicants must submit the following documents as required of them to register;

Students with disabilities must provide:

  •  A completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form

Students recognized as vulnerable children must provide:

  • An applicant who is recognised as a vulnerable child by the Department of Social Development must provide and Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker

Other documents that may be required, if applicable:

  • Retrenchment letter
  • Death certificate/s
  • Divorce Decree
  • Proof of legal guardianship
  • Marriage certificate
  • other documents may be required for appeal purposes,….eg retrenchment letter.
