TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) colleges provide a variety of qualifications aimed at providing learners with the practical skills and knowledge required for various sectors and career positions. These certifications are designed to prepare students for employment or further study by emphasising hands-on learning, real-world experience, and industry relevance. Below are the types of qualifications at TVET Colleges;

The National Certificate (Vocational) –

• NCV is a certificate that is available at several levels (from NQF Level 2 to NQF Level 4) and covers a variety of subjects relevant to certain sectors. It emphasises practical skills and work-integrated learning, equipping students for immediate employment or future studies at higher education institutions. Engineering, business, hospitality, the arts, and other areas are covered in NCV programmes.

NATED Diplomas (N1-N6):

• NATED diplomas are diploma programmes that include a wide range of technical and vocational subjects, such as engineering, business studies, and tourism. These credentials are divided into levels (N1 to N6), with each level building on the one before it. N6 is often completed by students before beginning an 18-month practical component in their chosen area. Following the successful completion of both academic and practical components, students are awarded a National Diploma.

• TVET colleges offer a wide range of short courses and skills programmes that give specialised training in certain areas. These programmes are ideal for anyone who wants to swiftly learn new skills or improve their existing expertise. Short courses and skills programmes encompass everything from computer programming and digital marketing to welding and auto repair.

Apprenticeships and Learnerships:

• Apprenticeships and learnerships are work-based learning programmes that combine practical on-the-job training with theoretical education. Apprenticeships are frequently centred on traditional crafts such as plumbing, electrical work, and carpentry. Learnerships are available in a variety of areas, including retail, healthcare, and manufacturing. These programmes offer a systematic approach to skill development and frequently lead to recognised credentials.

Acknowledgement of Prior Learning (RPL):

• RPL is a procedure through which individuals can obtain official acknowledgement for skills and information gained via job experience, life experience, or informal training. Individuals can gain qualifications through this technique without having to go through traditional schooling. RPL is very useful for those with practical experience but no formal qualifications.
