However, like any other educational institution, they face problems, the most disruptive of which are strikes. These strikes are frequently the consequence of a confluence of events, including labour conflicts, financing challenges, and governance concerns. Below are some strikes of some TVET colleges:
Students at the Kempton Park campus at Ekurhuleni West College (EWC) protested a problem called many problems at the university on Wednesday morning. Some of their complaints are about the lack of computers, books, unnecessary teachers, accommodation, and transportation to and from the Allengrove campus. “If our faculty are not committed, how are we supposed to get the education we need? If we don’t have a travel allowance, how do we apply for a scholarship? Is it, like college, we are not recognized and want to hear? “said one of the protesting students. The 4,444 students also complained to Principal Helen Manakedi Ntlaleng and campus manager Wellington Mudau. “We have the right to a good education, and we will not stop until our demands are met,” said another student. The mandate for the students’ demands would have been submitted to Mudau at noon in the amphitheater on campus.
Students at Westcol TVET College on the Krugersdorp campus protested study materials, allowances, timetables, and classes without faculty. Students boycott classes for more than two weeks, trying to get school management to listen to them and solve problems. Akhona Mapasa, chair of the Student Organization (SRC) and chair of the South African Students Congress (SASCO), said she only tried to bring the students back into class after everything was organized.
