South Africa has 50 registered and accredited public TVET colleges, operating on approximately 364 campuses spread across the country’s rural and urban areas. The Public TVET College was established and operated under the Continuing Education and Training Act 16 of 2006 and has been reported to the Department of Higher Education and Training. Public TVET College receives approximately Ran 8 billion in annual grants from the state. Each region has a DHET regional office that provides professional and professional support to the state’s public TVET colleges. DHET regional offices should not be confused with regional offices. The district office oversees school education in the Ministry of Basic Education.

Requirement For Public TVET Colleges In South Africa

The admission requirements to TVET Colleges are;

  • The minimum requirement is a successful Grade 9, but even better is successful Grade 10, 11 and Grade 12.
  • A year-end school report for Grade 9 or higher; or
  • An NQF Level 1 Qualification; or
  • ABET Level 4
  • A Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assessment to meet the basic requirement for access to NQF Level 2
