The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) bursary is a bursary scheme financed by the Department of Higher Education and Training for students who lack the financial means to fund their education and are unable to receive bank funding, study loans, or bursaries. NSFAS strives to provide higher education to students from low-income households who would otherwise be unable to afford tuition, housing, textbooks, and other educational expenses.
 
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) in South Africa covers a range of educational expenses for qualified students attending public universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges. Applicants who are approved for NSFAS funding are covered for the following: Registration, Tuition, Allowances for Food, Accommodation or transport, and Personal care.
